EMPHASIS: Results Of Selective Traffic Enforcement Programs Conducted By Troop B Officers During The Month Of February 2010

Captain John W. Elliott, commanding officer of Troop B, Macon, announces the results of Selective Traffic Enforcement Programs conducted on U.S. Highways 61 and 63, throughout the Troop B area, on February 12, 19, and 26, 2010. During these enforcement operations, which were held from noon to 8:00 p.m. each day, extra officers were scheduled to patrol the affected areas with a goal of detecting hazardous moving and speed violations that contribute to traffic crashes. As a result of the three enforcement operations, 17 officers issued 211 traffic summonses, made one misdemeanor warrant arrest, and issued 228 warnings. Totals from the enforcement efforts include:

140 -- speed summonses
1 -- failure to yield summons
32 -- seat belt summonses
3 -- child restraint summonses
2 -- following too close summonses
10 -- hazardous moving violation summonses
7 -- non-moving violation summonses
4 -- driver’s license violation summonses
12 -- insurance violation summonses
1 -- misdemeanor warrant arrest

"Special enforcement operations such as these are effective in reducing traffic crashes," stated Captain Elliott. "If you observe a vehicle being driven in a careless manner or possibly being driven by an intoxicated driver, we encourage you to contact your local law enforcement agency or the Missouri State Highway Patrol at 1-800-525-5555 or *55 on a cellular telephone.
