EMPHASIS: Troop I Announces August Enforcement Projects

Captain Lee Ann H. Kenley, commanding officer of Troop I, announces that during the month of August, 2010, Troop I officers will be participating in two sobriety checkpoints. These checkpoints will be conducted in Laclede and Crawford counties.

Captain Kenley urges all motorists passing through a checkpoint to use extreme caution by slowing down, keeping their eyes on the road and vehicles ahead for any sudden stopping, and to follow the directions of the officers.

Captain Kenley stated that officers at the checkpoint will be checking operator's licenses and looking particularly for motorists driving while under the influence of alcohol or other drugs. Captain Kenley went onto say, “Each year many motorists are arrested for driving while intoxicated as a result of these checkpoint operations. If just one life is saved or a needless traffic crash is prevented, then the time and effort our troopers put into these enforcement operations is well worth every minute.”
