EMPHASIS: Results of Troop I DWI Saturation Patrol

Captain Randy Becker, commanding officer of Troop I, announces the results of a DWI saturation patrol conducted in Phelps and Pulaski Counties that began on May 5, 2007 at 7:00 pm and ended the next morning at 3:00 am. During the operation, troopers were assigned to patrol those highways where in the past a higher number of traffic crashes and arrests had occurred involving alcohol or drug impaired drivers.
Troopers made 24 arrests during the shift, of which one was for driving while intoxicated. Traffic citations issued by the officers included nine summonses for speeding, six for failure to wear a seat belt, one for a vehicle failing to yield, one for a hazardous moving violation, four for non-moving traffic violations, two for a driver’s license violation and one for a driver being uninsured. The troopers also issued 56 warnings for various other traffic violations during the course of the operation.
Captain Becker stated, “With summer rapidly approaching, many families are making plans for their annual vacation. It is every motorist’s responsibility to help make these experiences both a fun and safe occasion by taking all the necessary precautions while driving on our highways. Remember, many crashes can be avoided if drivers would simply choose to never drive while impaired and always strictly obey the rules of the road. Please help make our job easier by making our roads safer.”
