EMPHASIS: Howell County Traffic Stop Nets Drug Arrests
On October 22, 2008, at approximately 12:50 a.m., a Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper initiated a traffic stop on 2001 Mercury on a city street within Wayside Park in the city of Mountain View, Missouri. The trooper was acting on a tip that the driver of the Mercury was transporting stolen prescription medication for the purpose of illegal distribution. The trooper asked for consent to search the vehicle, which the driver granted. A subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered a large quantity of hydrocodone and oxycontin.
The driver, Amy L. Gilder, 36, of Mountain View, Missouri, was arrested for possession of a controlled substance (hydrocodone); possession of a controlled substance (oxycontin); distributing a controlled substance near a school; and theft/stealing any controlled substance as defined in Section 195.010 RSMo.
The charges for which Gilder was arrested are mere accusations and are not evidence of guilt. Evidence in support of the charges must be presented before a court of competent jurisdiction whose duty is to determine guilt or innocence.
