EMPHASIS: Troop C Prepares For Thanksgiving Holiday Travel
Captain Ronald S. Johnson, commanding officer of Troop C, Weldon Spring, announces that Troop C officers will conduct two enforcement projects throughout the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. These projects are intended to promote safety and to reduce the number of crashes in the Troop C area. Operation C.A.R.E. (Combined Accident Reduction Effort) will be conducted on Interstates 270, 70, 64, 55, 44, and U.S. Highway 61. On Wednesday, November 23, 2011, and Sunday, November 27, 2011, Troop C has scheduled a 20-mile Trooper Enforcement Operation on Interstates 70 and 44, as well as some secondary roadways.
The Patrol has experienced great success in traffic crash and fatality reduction with the 20-mile Trooper Enforcement Operations during the heavily traveled holiday weekends. This Thanksgiving holiday, the Patrol will maintain a presence on the interstate highways throughout Missouri. However, shifting some of those troopers to U.S. and secondary highways will give the Patrol a noticeable presence and afford the opportunity to expand the crash and fatality reduction to those corridors.
The Thanksgiving holiday counting period begins at 6 p.m., on Wednesday, November 23, 2011, and will continue until 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, November 27, 2011.
Currently, Missouri is experiencing a 9 % reduction in traffic fatalities compared to the same time period last year. The Patrol is committed to continuing crash and fatality reduction through our education and enforcement efforts.
“The Thanksgiving holiday weekend is the busiest holiday of the year," said Captain Johnson. "If anyone observes a vehicle operating in a careless manner, please contact the Highway Patrol toll-free at 1-800-525-5555 or on a cellular phone at *55.
