EMPHASIS: Troop I Release Memorial Day Weekend Traffic Crash and Enforcement Report

Captain Lee Ann H. Kenley, commanding officer of Troop I, announces the Memorial Day weekend traffic crash and enforcement totals for the Troop I area, which consists of six counties in South Central Missouri.
During the Memorial Day weekend traffic crash counting period, which began at 6:00 p.m., May 24, 2013, and ended at 11:59 p.m., May 27, 2013, Troop I officers investigated 19 traffic crashes, which resulted in ten injuries and no fatalities. Troop I officers made seven arrests for driving while intoxicated, issued 457 speed summonses, 142 seat belt summonses, and nine summonses for child passenger safety restraint violations. Troopers assigned to Troop I also issued 667 warnings for various traffic violations over the weekend and assisted 171 motorists.
Captain Kenley stated, “I am pleased that like last year, once again there were no fatalities in the Troop I area over the Memorial Day weekend. However, for some in our state, this weekend will always be remembered for the friend or family member who was either killed or seriously injured in a traffic crash. Please make a commitment to making the rest of your summer both safe and fun by always obeying the rules of the road."
The Patrol encourages all motorists and watercraft operators to protect themselves by making sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint and everyone in the vessel is wearing an approved life jacket. Click It 4 Life and Wear It!!!
