EMPHASIS: Traffic Stop For Littering Results In Drug Arrest

On December 29, 2007, at approximately 7:30 p.m., a Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper stopped a 2008 Pontiac Solstice on Missouri 20 at Route EE in Saline County for littering. Several inconsistencies were found during the conversations with the driver prompting the trooper to ask for consent to search the vehicle, which the driver granted. Sixty grams of marijuana and drug paraphernalia were located in the trunk.
The driver, Brett E. Cox, 43, of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, was arrested for possession of more than 35 grams of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia and taken to the Saline County Jail.
The charges for which Cox was arrested are mere accusations and are not evidence of guilt. Evidence in support of the charges must be presented before a court of competent jurisdiction whose duty it is to determine guilt or innocence.
