EMPHASIS: One Fatality Posted In Troop A During Labor Day Holiday

Captain Robert Powell, commanding officer, Troop A, announces the totals for the Labor Day holiday weekend. Troop A investigated one fatal crash in its 13-county area. There were no fatalities in Troop A during the same holiday weekend last year. The counting period began at 6 p.m., on Friday, September 3, and ended at 10:00 p.m., on Monday, September 6, 2010.
Troopers in Troop A investigated 40 crashes, 18 of which included injuries, during the four-day holiday, and arrested 44 subjects for driving while intoxicated. Over the weekend, troopers participated in the 10-Mile Trooper program and directed their efforts toward enforcing speed limits, seat belt laws, and arresting intoxicated and careless drivers.
Captain Powell stated, "Our goal is to make traveling on Missouri's highways safe for everyone. Remember to do your part. Obey the speed limit, pay attention to the job of driving, always buckle your seat belt, and if you are going to drink, please do not drive."
Note: 2010 statistics may fluctuate due to late deaths.
