Captain James E. Wilt, commanding officer of Troop B, Macon, announces the results of Selective Traffic Enforcement Programs conducted in the Troop B area during April 2010.
On April 16, and 23, 2010, Troop B officers conducted Selective Traffic Enforcement Operations on U.S. Highways 61 and 63, throughout the Troop B area. During these enforcement operations, which were held from noon to 8:00 p.m. each day, extra officers were scheduled to patrol the affected areas with a goal of detecting hazardous moving and speed violations which often contribute to traffic crashes. As a result of the two enforcement operations, 12 officers issued 133 traffic citations, made six misdemeanor drug arrests, one arrest for a misdemeanor warrant, one arrest for driving while intoxicated, and issued 153 warnings. Totals of citations issued during the enforcement efforts include:

107-- speed violation citations
12-- seat belt violation citations
1-- commercial vehicle violation citation
1-- hazardous moving violation citation
2-- non-moving violation citations
3-- driver’s license violation citations
7-- insurance violation citations

On April 23, 2010, from 10:30 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. on April 24, 2010, three officers conducted a DWI Saturation on highways located in Ralls County, with a goal of detecting impaired drivers and hazardous moving violations. During this enforcement operation, officers made four arrests for driving while intoxicated and three arrests for misdemeanor warrants. One citation was issued for a non-moving violation, two citations were issued for license violations, one citation was issued for an insurance violation, one citation was issued for a signal light violation, and a total of 15 warnings were issued.
"Special enforcement operations such as these are effective in reducing traffic crashes," stated Captain Wilt.
