EMPHASIS: Results Of 2014 July Fourth Enforcement Programs Conducted By Troop B Officers

Captain James E. Wilt, commanding officer of Troop B, Macon, announces the 2014 July Fourth traffic crash and enforcement totals for the Troop B area, which consists of the 16 northeast counties of Missouri. From July 3, 2014 through July 6, 2014, troopers participated in Operation C.A.R.E. (Combined Accident Reduction Effort). As an added enforcement effort Troop B officers conducted a 20-Mile Trooper operation on U.S. Highways 36, 61, and 63 on Thursday, July 3, 2014, and Sunday, July 6, 2014. There were zero fatal traffic crashes on highways covered by the 20-Mile Trooper project.
Preliminary enforcement totals show officers issued 346 citations for exceeding the posted speed limit, 97 citations for seat belt violations, 716 warnings, made 10 arrests for driving while intoxicated and 13 drug arrests, and assisted 230 motorists. During the holiday period, Troop B officers investigated 17 traffic crashes in which 13 people were injured.
“Even though this major holiday period has ended, we want to urge motorists to continue to drive safely and always wear their seat belts,” stated Captain Wilt.
In support of "The Drive To ZERO Highway Deaths," the Patrol encourages motorists to protect themselves and their passengers by making sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint. Watercraft operators should ensure that everyone in the vessel is wearing an approved life jacket. Click It 4 Life And Wear It!!
