EMPHASIS: Results of Sobriety Checkpoints Conducted In Marion And Adair Counties


Captain James E. Wilt, commanding officer of Troop B, Macon, announces the results of sobriety checkpoints conducted by Troop B officers during the month of July 2014.
On July 11, 2014, members of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Marion County Sheriff's Department, and the Hannibal Police Department conducted a sobriety checkpoint on Missouri Highway 79 at Missouri Route T, in Marion County. As a result of the checkpoint, which began at 11:00 p.m. on July 11, 2014, and concluded at 3:00 a.m. on July 12, 2014, officers checked 164 vehicles, made four arrests, and issued ten traffic citations and 51 warnings. The following is a list of enforcement contacts made during the checkpoint:

1 -- Arrest for driving while intoxicated.
3 -- Arrests for misdemeanor drug violations.
6 -- Citations were issued for seat belt violations.
2 -- Citations were issued for non-moving violations.
2 -- Citations were issued for license violations.

On July 19, 2014, members of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, and the Adair County Sheriff's Department conducted a sobriety checkpoint on U.S. Highway 63, south of Missouri Route T, in Adair County. As a result of the checkpoint, which began at 11:00 p.m. on July 19, 2014, and concluded at 3:00 a.m. on July 20, 2014, officers checked 203 vehicles, made 14 arrests, and issued four traffic citations and five warnings. The following is a list of enforcement contacts made during the checkpoint:

7 -- Arrests for driving while intoxicated.
2 -- Arrests for misdemeanor drug violations.
4 -- Arrests for misdemeanor criminal violations.
1 -- Arrest for a felony drug violation.
2 -- Citations issued for a seat belt violations.
2 -- Citations for driver’s license violations.

"The Missouri State Highway Patrol takes drinking and driving very seriously," stated Captain Wilt. "The Patrol will be holding other special enforcement operations throughout the year in an effort to make our highways safer. If drinking alcohol is part of your plans, choose a designated driver."
In support of "The Drive To ZERO Highway Deaths," the Patrol encourages motorists to protect themselves and their passengers by making sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint.
