EMPHASIS: Thanksgiving Holiday Enforcement Effort

Captain Duane L. Robinson, commanding officer of Troop H in St. Joseph, announces two enforcement programs to help keep motorists safe while traveling during the busy travel days of the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. The first is Operation C.A.R.E. (Combined Accident Reduction Effort) a national safe driving incentive that Troop H will participate in all weekend. Troopers will be aggressively enforcing traffic laws and helping motorists who need assistance while traveling. The “20-Mile Trooper” operation is an enforcement program that attempts to reduce crashes on primary roadways in Troop H. The “20-Mile Trooper” operation will be conducted on Wednesday, November 21, 2012 and Sunday, November 25, 2012. The hours of the program will be from 12 p.m. to midnight on November 21, 2012 and 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on November 25, 2012. Interstate 35, along with U.S. highways 36, 65, 71, and 169 have been selected as the locations for the operation.
Troopers will be located every 20 miles on Interstate 35 and additional troopers have been assigned to work the U.S. highways in Troop H. Troopers will be in high visibility areas watching for impaired drivers, traffic violations, and enforcing the Patrol’s zero tolerance policy for seat belt and child restraint violations. All other types of hazardous driving will also be addressed.
To report unsafe driving, motorists can use the Patrol’s emergency telephone numbers. They are 1-800-525-5555 or, on a cellular phone, *55.
