EMPHASIS: 18th Annual Corporal Michael E. Webster Memorial Blood Drive

Captain Robert L. Powell, commanding officer of Troop A, announces the 18th Annual Corporal Michael E. Webster Memorial Blood Drive. The blood drive will be held on Tuesday, October 4, 2011, from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the downstairs meeting room at Troop A Headquarters, Lee’s Summit. The blood drive is an annual event held to raise awareness about the dangers of driving while under the influence of alcohol. Cpl. Michael E. Webster was killed on October 2, 1993, by a drunk driver while standing next to a vehicle he had stopped for a traffic violation. The Patrol, along with the Community Blood Center of Kansas City, hosts the blood drive to emphasize the seriousness associated with alcohol-related traffic crashes. Blood is an essential element, which may help to save someone’s life that has been involved in a traffic crash.
Someone is killed or injured in an alcohol-related crash every two hours in Missouri. Alcohol was involved in 25% of all fatal crashes during 2010. Drunk drivers killed 205 persons and injured 4,107 in traffic crashes involving alcohol last year.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol and the employees of Troop A would like to invite the public to come by Troop A Headquarters and donate blood. Anyone who would like to donate blood may stop by Troop A Headquarters or call 816-622-0800 and schedule an appointment
