EMPHASIS: Troop D Announces Results Of Special Enforcement Saturation

Captain Juan Villanueva, commanding officer of Troop D, announces the results of special enforcement saturations in and around the city of Cassville, in Barry County. The operations were a cooperative effort between the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the Cassville Police Department, and the Ozark Drug Enforcement Team (ODET). The enforcement saturations were conducted from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday February 25, 2016, and Friday, February 26, 2016. The enforcement area was selected due to a high propensity for criminal activity along with citizen complaints.

During the operations, troopers and officers stopped 59 vehicles. Additionally, troopers conducted a driver license and safety spotcheck at which 99 vehicles were stopped. Intelligence gathered during the operations along with a positive sniff by a patrol canine resulted in three residential searches and one vehicle search. The following is a list of enforcement actions taken during the operations:

Misdemeanor Drug Arrests -- 3
Misdemeanor Warrant Arrest -- 1
Speed Violations -- 7
Seat Belt Violations -- 11
Driver License Violations -- 8
Insurance Violations -- 14
Non-Moving Violations -- 8

Troopers and officers also issued 82 warnings for various other offenses during the operations.

Approximately 63 percent of Missouri fatal crash victims who are required to be restrained are NOT at the time of the traffic crash. The Patrol urges motorists to protect themselves and their passengers by making sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint.
