EMPHASIS: Two Fatalities Posted In Troop A During Fourth of July Holiday

Captain Robert Powell, commanding officer, Troop A, announces the totals for the Fourth of July holiday weekend. Troop A investigated two fatal crashes in its 13-county area. There were two fatalities in Troop A during the same holiday weekend last year. The counting period began at 6 p.m., on Friday, July 2, and ended at 10:00 p.m., on Monday, July 5, 2010.
Troopers in Troop A investigated 31 crashes, 20 of which included injuries, during the four-day holiday, and arrested 29 subjects for driving while intoxicated. Over the weekend, troopers directed their efforts toward enforcing speed limits, seat belt laws, and arresting intoxicated and careless drivers.
Captain Powell stated, "Our goal is to make traveling on Missouri's highways safe for everyone. Remember to do your part. Obey the speed limit, pay attention to the job of driving, always buckle your seat belt, and if you are going to drink, please do not drive."
Note: 2010 statistics may fluctuate due to late deaths.
