EMPHASIS: Theft Investigation Results In Arrest

On July 11, 2013, after a lengthy search in Northwest Greene County, Howard Lee Perryman, 67, of Monett, Missouri, was arrested by officers from the Greene County Sheriff's Department on numerous felony charges, including the theft of farm equipment, stealing cattle, and tampering with a motor vehicle. Perryman's arrest came as the result of a lengthy investigation conducted by the Rural Crimes Unit of the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control, and the Sheriff's Departments in Barry and Greene counties. Additional assistance was provided by the sheriff's departments and police agencies in Christian, Dade, Jasper, Lawrence, and Webster counties, where numerous stolen items were also recovered. These items are valued at more than $100,000. Perryman is being held in the Greene County Jail on a $1,000,000 bond.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol, the Barry County Sheriff's Department and the Greene County Sheriff's Department cordially invite all media outlets to attend a press conference at 1 p.m., on Monday, July 15, 2013, at the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Troop D Headquarters, 3131 East Kearney Street, Springfield, Missouri. The intention of this news conference is to provide an update to the Perryman investigation and increase the awareness of cattle and equipment theft in Southwest Missouri.

The charges for which Perryman was arrested are mere accusations and are not evidence of guilt. Evidence in support of the charges must be presented before a court of competent jurisdiction whose duty is to determine guilt or innocence.
