EMPHASIS: Recovery Effort For Trooper Guthrie Will Resume Tuesday Morning, August 2nd

Colonel Ronald K. Replogle, Superintendent of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, regretfully announces the Patrol is in a water recovery effort for Trooper Frederick “Fred” F. Guthrie, Jr., age 46, of Platte City, Missouri. The recovery effort will resume at daylight on Tuesday morning. Trooper Guthrie joined the then Missouri State Water Patrol on January 2, 1994, and transitioned to trooper with the merger to the Highway Patrol January 1, 2011, where he has served in the Water Patrol Division within Troop A serving Platte County.

On August 1, 2011, Trooper Guthrie and his Patrol K-9 Reed, were working Missouri river flood duty in the area of Big Lake on Missouri 118 at Missouri 111 in Holt County, Missouri, and were apparently swept away by swift flood water in the area.

Trooper Guthrie is a combined 17-year-veteran of the former Missouri State Water Patrol and the now Missouri State Highway Patrol, Water Patrol Division. Trooper Guthrie's K-9, Reed, is a five year veteran with the Patrol.

Numerous law enforcement agencies including the patrol's aircraft and water patrol divisions will actively participate in the recovery effort at daylight on Tuesday morning. The incident is currently under investigation and more information will be released when the investigation is completed.
