EMPHASIS: Winter Weather Advisory

Captain Gregory D. Kindle, commanding officer of Troop F, Jefferson City, would like to remind all motorists traveling on Missouri’s roadways that the driving conditions will remain hazardous for the next couple of days.
The extremely low temperatures and blowing snow will continue to cause problems on major and secondary roads. Because of the these conditions, the Patrol encourages all motorists to avoid travel—unless for emergency purposes.
The best tactical item a motorist can carry is a fully charged cell phone and a phone charger. In case of emergency, please call the Missouri State Highway Patrol at 1-800-525-5555 or call *55 on a cellular phone to contact the nearest troop headquarters. Also, maintain a least a half of a tank of fuel in your vehicle. The use of the vehicle’s heater will help fight off the extreme cold. The high winds will cause dangerous wind chill temperatures in a short time and can cause frostbite in a matter of minutes. If stranded, stay with your vehicle and call for assistance as soon as possible. Do not walk on or stand near dangerously slick roadways.
The public can verify the state's road conditions by calling the Missouri Road Condition Report Line at (1-888-275-6636) or by checking MoDOT’s Road Condition Map or by clicking on the Road Condition icon on the Patrol’s web site www.mshp.dps.mo.gov.
The Patrol encourages motorists and watercraft operators to protect themselves by making sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint and everyone in the vessel is wearing an approved life jacket. Click It 4 Life and Wear It!!!
