2016 Troop B Thanksgiving Holiday Traffic Crash And Enforcement Totals
Captain James E. Wilt, commanding officer of Troop B, Macon, announces the 2016 Thanksgiving holiday traffic crash and preliminary enforcement totals for the Troop B area, which consists of the 16 northeast counties of Missouri.
During the 2016 Thanksgiving weekend traffic crash counting period, which began on Wednesday, November 23, 2016, at 6 p.m., and ended on Sunday, November 27, 2016, at 11:59 p.m., troopers participated in Operation C.A.R.E. (Combined Accident Reduction Effort). In addition to Operation C.A.R.E., Troop B troopers conducted a Holiday Traffic Crash Reduction Effort on portions of U.S. Highways 24, 36, and 63, on Wednesday, November 23, 2016, and Sunday, November 27, 2016. During these operations, troopers investigated 28 traffic crashes, in which there were one fatality and nine individuals injured. An additional single fatality traffic crash was investigated by the Kirksville Police Department on November 27, 2016.
Preliminary enforcement totals show Troop B troopers made six arrests for driving while intoxicated, 11 arrests for drug violations, and issued 321 citations for exceeding the speed limit.
“The Missouri State Highway Patrol takes holiday weekends very seriously,” stated Captain Wilt. “Taking the job of driving seriously, and remembering to buckle up, will help reduce the number of traffic crashes and fatalities in Missouri.”
The only 100 percent survivable traffic crash is the one that never happens. Make sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint. Every day as we travel on Missouri’s roadways, we trust that every driver on the road is going to obey the speed limit, pay attention, and drive sober.
“Don’t Violate The Trust.”
