EMPHASIS: Wevers' Deaths Attributed To Carbon Monoxide Asphyxiation

On May 27, 2014, Pulaski County sheriff’s deputies responded to the Pulaski County Shrine Club located near the community of Buckhorn, MO, to check on the well-being of a Southwest Missouri couple who had not been heard from when expected. Upon their arrival, they located the camper style utility trailer known to have been used by the couple. Inside the trailer, deputies located the deceased bodies of a male and female, who were later identified as Mary J. Wevers, 58, and Frank J. Wevers III, 66, of Kimberling City, MO.
An investigation into the deaths of the Wevers was initiated by the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department and the Missouri State Highway Patrol Division of Drug and Crime Control’s Troop I Unit. On September 10, 2014, investigators were notified of the results of the autopsy, which indicated the couple’s death was attributed to asphyxiation due to carbon monoxide. During the investigation, officers noted that a portable generator, which was used to power the trailer, was located in close proximity of the Wevers’ trailer. They also noted that the positioning of the generator would have likely allowed the exhaust to filter back into the trailer.
Based upon the results of the autopsy and the conclusions of the investigating officers, there is no suspicion of foul play in the deaths of Mary and Frank Wevers.
