Captain Ronald S. Johnson, commanding officer Troop C, Weldon Spring, is pleased to announce the results of a recent enforcement detail “Operation A.R.R.E.S.T.” (Alcohol Related Response Enforcement Strike Team). The purpose of Operation A.R.R.E.S.T. is to increase the motoring public’s awareness of the hazards of operating a motor vehicle while in an intoxicated condition.

Operation A.R.R.E.S.T. was conducted from 7 p.m. on Saturday, May 12, 2012, to 3 a.m. on Sunday, May 13, 2012, in St. Francois and Washington counties. This eight-hour project was conducted by six officers, who focused their enforcement efforts on identifying hazardous motor vehicle operations. During the operation, a total of 38 enforcement contacts were made along with 30 warnings issued. Five subjects were arrested for driving while intoxicated, three subjects were issued summonses for following too close, 12 for no seat belt, one for speed, one for failing to stop at a stop sign, one for careless and imprudent driving, and 15 non-moving violation summonses were also issued.

Captain Johnson stated, “Alcohol continues to be responsible for approximately 30 percent of all fatal crashes on Missouri highways. Operation A.R.R.E.S.T. will assist in reducing the number of intoxicated drivers, traffic crashes, and fatalities that occur on our roadways.”
