EMPHASIS: Results of Troop I Saturated Traffic Enforcement Program
Captain Randy L. Becker, commanding officer of Troop I, announces the results of a Hazardous Moving Violation Saturation patrol conducted in Crawford County on Saturday, June 9, 2007. During the operation troopers were assigned to patrol highways that, historically, have experienced a higher number of traffic crashes and hazardous moving violations.
During the course of an eight-hour period, which began at 11 a.m. and ended at 7 p.m., the five troopers assigned to the saturation issued 30 citations for speeding, five for a person failing to properly wear a seat belt, two for non-moving traffic offenses, and one for a driver’s license violation. The troopers also made two arrests for outstanding misdemeanor warrants. In addition to these arrests and traffic summonses, the troopers issued 35 warnings.
Captain Becker would like to encourage motorists to be especially careful during the busy summer months. “This saturation program resulted in a large number of speed arrests,” Captain Becker stated. “Our troopers will continue to enforce strictly the speed limits. Patrol statistics show approximately 40 percent of all fatal traffic crashes in our state are speed related.”
