Captain Ronald S. Johnson, commanding officer of Troop C, St. Louis, announces the July 4th traffic crash and enforcement totals for Troop C. The 2007 traffic crash counting period began at 6 p.m., Tuesday, July 3, 2007, and ended at 11:59 p.m., Wednesday, July 4, 2007. Troop C officers also participated in Operation (C.A.R.E.), which is a multi-state “Combined Accident Reduction Effort”, that also began at 6 p.m. on July 3, 2007, but continued to 11:59 p.m., Sunday, July 8, 2007.
During the extended C.A.R.E. counting period, Troop C officers investigated 108 traffic crashes, of which three resulted in fatalities, and six were alcohol-related. During that same counting period, Troop C officers arrested 36 individuals for driving while intoxicated, and issued 728 speeding citations and 286 seat belt citations. Troop C officers also issued 507 citations for other violations, in addition to 87 misdemeanor arrests and 17 felony arrests. In addition to these arrest totals, Troop C officers also assisted 432 disabled motorists.
“Enjoying the holidays with family is always a priority to everyone, however, the Missouri State Highway Patrol makes it a priority and takes their job of enforcing the traffic laws on Missouri’s roadways seriously. Please always remember to drive safely, take the job of driving seriously, always remember to buckle up, and designate a sober driver,” added Captain Ronald Johnson.
