EMPHASIS:
Troop B 2016 Fourth Of July Holiday Totals
Captain James E. Wilt, commanding officer of Troop B, Macon, announces the 2016 Fourth of July weekend traffic crash and enforcement totals for the Troop B area, which consists of the 16 northeast counties of Missouri. During the holiday weekend, troopers participated in Operation C.A.R.E. (Combined Accident Reduction Effort), and as an added enforcement effort also conducted a peak travel crash reduction operation on U.S. Highways 24, 36, and 63 on Friday, July 1, and Monday, July 4, 2016.
During the 2016 Fourth of July weekend traffic crash counting period, which began at 6 p.m., Friday, July 1, and ended at 11:59 p.m., Monday, July 4, 2016, Troop B officers investigated 22 traffic crashes resulting in three injuries. Officers also investigated one boating crash. Preliminary enforcement totals show officers issued 345 summonses for exceeding the posted speed limit; made six arrests for driving while intoxicated, one arrest for boating while intoxicated and six drug arrests.
“Even though this major holiday period has ended, we want to urge motorists to continue to drive safely and always wear their seat belts,” stated Captain Wilt.
The only 100 percent survivable traffic crash is the one that never happens. Make sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint. Every day as we travel on Missouri’s roadways, we trust that every driver on the road is going to obey the speed limit, pay attention, and drive sober.
“Don’t Violate The Trust.”
