EMPHASIS: Traffic Stop On I-70 Results In Drug Arrests

On August 3, 2007, at approximately 4:03 p.m., a member of the Missouri State Highway Patrol stopped a Honda CRX on eastbound Interstate 70 at the 57-mile marker in Lafayette County for a lane violation. Consent to search the vehicle was obtained and approximately 1/4 pound of marijuana was located in the trunk area of the vehicle. Also located in the passenger compartment area of the vehicle was drug paraphernalia and less than 35 grams of marijuana.
The driver, Joshua N. Harris, 22, of High Ridge, Missouri, and the passenger, Anthony K. Masten, 23, of Lawton, Oklahoma, were arrested for possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute marijuana and transported to the Lafayette County Jail. A computer check of Anthony K. Masten, also revealed an active felony warrant from Comanche County, Oklahoma, for passing forged checks.
The charges for which Joshua N. Harris and Anthony K. Masten were arrested for are mere accusations and are not evidence of guilt. Evidence in support of the charges must be presented before a court of competent jurisdiction whose duty it is to determine guilt or innocence.
