EMPHASIS: Omar Maria Indicted For The Shooting Of A Pleasant Valley Officer

On Sunday, December 14, 2014, Omar Maria, 31, from Kansas City, Kansas, was arrested and questioned in connection with the shooting of Pleasant Valley Officer Jacob Baldwin. The subsequent investigation by the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control, with the assistance of the Clay County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, led to an indictment by a Clay County grand jury. On Tuesday, December 30, 2014, the grand jury found there was probable cause to charge Maria with the Class A felony of assault on a law enforcement officer in the first degree and felony armed criminal action. Maria is being held in the Leavenworth Detention Center in Leavenworth, Kansas, on a $1,000,000 bond.

The above charges are mere accusations and are not evidence of guilt. Evidence in support of the charges must be presented before a court of competent jurisdiction whose duty is to determine guilt or innocence.
