EMPHASIS: Operation P.R.O.T.E.C.T. To Be Conducted In Jefferson And St. Charles Counties

Captain Ronald S. Johnson, commanding officer of Troop C, Weldon Spring, informs the public that an “OPERATION P.R.O.T.E.C.T.” is scheduled in Jefferson and St. Charles counties. “OPERATION P.R.O.T.E.C.T.” will be an eight-hour operation utilizing 12 state troopers. The enforcement effort will focus on two work/construction zones located on Missouri Highway 141 near Missouri Highway 21 in Jefferson County, and on Missouri Highway 94 north of Mid Rivers Mall Drive in St. Charles County. Operation P.R.O.T.E.C.T. will begin at 7 a.m. and continue to 3 p.m. on September 14, 2011.

“OPERATION P.R.O.T.E.C.T.” identifies and prioritizes construction /work zones with critical issues or problems affecting highway safety through complaints from the general public, highway/construction workers, law enforcement, and emergency responders, and takes into account recent crash statistics. A zero tolerance enforcement policy has been established for the operation. In addition, routine construction zone enforcement will be part of the operation and will focus on traffic violations, such as speed, following too close, other hazardous moving violations, and commercial motor vehicle violations. This zero tolerance policy directs troopers to take appropriate action on all observed traffic violations in construction/work zones by issuing uniform citations or warnings.
