EMPHASIS: Results Of The Route 66 Seat Belt Campaign In Troop D

Captain Juan Villanueva, commanding officer of Troop D, Springfield, announces the Troop D results of the “Get Your ‘Clicks’ On Route 66” seat belt campaign, which occurred on Friday, February 3, 2012. During the operation, troopers, along with officers from seven other states, were assigned to Route 66 in a continued effort to stress the importance of seat belt usage. Troop D officers made 65 arrests during the operation, including the following:

3--Driving While Intoxicated
10--Failure To Wear Seat Belt
45--Misdemeanor/Infraction Arrests
5--Other Misdemeanor Arrests
2--Felony Arrests

Also, troopers throughout the state issued a total of 52 seat belt citations and arrested seven individuals for driving while intoxicated during this enforcement project.

“The wearing of seat belts by drivers and passengers in vehicles is one of the best ways to prevent death and personal injury when involved in a traffic crash. Using a seat belt is not only a smart decision, but it’s the law,” Captain Villanueva stated.
