EMPHASIS: Results of Laclede County Sobriety Checkpoints

A total of 16 arrests were made and 111 warnings issued as a result of two sobriety checkpoints held in Laclede County, September 22 and 23, 2007. The first checkpoint was conducted from 7 p.m. until 11 p.m. on Missouri Route 32, at the Route B intersection. The second checkpoint, which was conducted on Missouri Route 5, approximately 1.7 miles north of Lebanon, followed the first and concluded at 3 a.m. The arrest totals for the checkpoints include four arrests for driving while intoxicated and one for misdemeanor possession of drugs. Traffic arrests during the operations included three for registration violations, five for individuals failing to wear a seat belt, two for driver’s license violations, and one for an equipment violation. During the course of the checkpoints, troopers stopped 287 vehicles.
Captain Randy Becker, commanding officer of Troop I, stated, “Missourians should be proud that our statewide traffic fatalities have decreased significantly since 2005. By removing the alcohol- or drug-impaired driver, the Patrol hopes to continue to do its part in making our roads and highways safer for everyone.
