EMPHASIS: Traffic Crash And Enforcement Totals For Thanksgiving Holiday


Captain Ronald S. Johnson, commanding officer of Troop C, Weldon Spring, announces the Thanksgiving holiday weekend traffic crash and enforcement totals for the Troop C area. During the holiday weekend, troopers participated in Operation C.A.R.E. (Combined Accident Reduction Effort) and various other enforcement projects. The 2011 Thanksgiving holiday weekend traffic crash counting period began at 6 p.m., Wednesday, November 23, 2011, and ended at 11:59 p.m., Sunday, November 27, 2011.

During the holiday period, Troop C officers investigated 128 traffic crashes, 10 of which were alcohol-related. In these traffic crashes, 42 people were injured and one person died as a result of a crash in Warren County.

Troop C enforcement totals include 768 speed citations, 237 seat belt and child restraint citations, 315 driver license/insurance/registration citations, 147 other hazardous moving citations, and 124 other non-moving citations. A total of 1,309 warnings were issued during the counting period. In addition, Troop C officers made16 felony arrests, 128 misdemeanor arrests, and 40 DWI (driving while intoxicated) arrests. Troop C officers assisted 337 stranded motorists.

"Troop C had a productive Thanksgiving holiday weekend. The outstanding results of these projects show the dedication of our officers," stated Captain Johnson. "I am especially pleased that the total number of traffic crashes and fatalities decreased from last year totals."
