EMPHASIS: Officer-Involved Shooting In Randolph County

At approximately 11 a.m., on April 25, 2016, a Randolph County sheriff’s deputy attempted to stop a black 2000 Oldsmobile Bravada, occupied by a male driver and a female passenger, on Randolph County Road 2270 for careless driving. The vehicle failed to stop for the deputy and a pursuit ensued. The vehicle continued traveling west on Missouri Route BB, then north on Randolph County Road 2210, and then westbound on U.S. Highway 24, east of Huntsville, Missouri. As the suspect vehicle reached Missouri Route C on U.S. Highway 24, a Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper successfully deployed a tire deflation device. The vehicle continued westbound a short distance and traveled on the north side of the road and stopped. The male suspect exited the vehicle and began to flee on foot. As two Randolph County deputies began to give chase, the suspect displayed a firearm and fired it toward the officers. Randolph County deputies returned gunfire and the suspect sustained at least two gunshot wounds. No law enforcement personnel were injured in the incident. The female passenger has been detained for questioning.

The injured suspect, a 34-year-old male, of Moberly, Missouri, was transported to the University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia, Missouri, with serious injuries by the Randolph County Ambulance District.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control continues to investigate. The Patrol is being assisted by the Randolph County Sheriff’s Department, Moberly Police Department, Huntsville Police Department, and the Randolph County Ambulance District.
