EMPHASIS: June Enforcement Projects Scheduled For Troop D

Captain Juan Villanueva, commanding officer of Troop D, Springfield, announces several enforcement operations that will be conducted sometime during the month of June 2013.

Troop D officers will conduct a sobriety checkpoint in Christian County, and a driving while intoxicated saturation in Taney County. These projects will concentrate on highways which have been found to have a high number of alcohol-related crashes and enforcement contacts. The sobering fact is that impaired driving contributes to more than 27 percent of all Missouri fatal traffic crashes. In 2012, 219 people were killed and 3,513 injured in crashes involving an impaired driver. That’s why the Missouri State Highway Patrol will join other Missouri law enforcement agencies to crack down on drunk driving throughout the month of June.

Additionally, the Patrol will be conducting a hazardous moving violation saturation in both Jasper and Stone counties. The primary goal of these projects is to positively impact traffic problems by reducing crashes. The objectives are to heighten the awareness of the risks associated with impaired driving and increase compliance of the speed limit and seat belt laws.

Finally, troopers will target impaired boat operators by conducting checkpoints and saturations on Pomme de Terre and Table Rock lakes, and on the Elk and Niangua rivers. These projects will also focus on hazardous boating, minors in possession of alcohol, and enforcing drug laws.

The Patrol encourages motorists and watercraft operators to protect themselves by making sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint and everyone in the vessel is wearing an approved life jacket. Click It 4 Life and Wear It!!!
