During the eight-hour project, 11 troopers focused their attention on violations that occurred in the construction/work zone on I-44 east and west of Lewis Road.
As a result of the enforcement program, a total of 142 summonses and 143 warnings were issued. Of those summonses, 85 individuals were cited for exceeding the speed limit and 17 for no seat belt. The remaining summonses were issued for miscellaneous violations, and one subject was arrested on an outstanding warrant. Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Troopers issued eleven summonses to commercial vehicle operators and placed seven commercial motor vehicles out-of-service.
Captain Johnson said, “These types of operations that are conducted in construction/work zones make it safer for the motoring public, contractors, and state employees. Please obey the reduced speed limits and be attentive while driving through construction zones.”
