EMPHASIS: Troop C Officers To Participate In Operation C.A.R.E. And 20-Mile Trooper Enforcement Programs Over The 2015 Independence Day Holiday

Captain Ronald S. Johnson, commanding officer of Troop C, Weldon Spring, announces upcoming plans for Troop C troopers to participate in special enforcement programs over the 2015 Independence Day holiday. The Missouri State Highway Patrol will be participating in Operation C.A.R.E. (Combined Accident Reduction Effort) during the long holiday weekend. This means every available officer will be on the road enforcing traffic laws and assisting motorists. Additionally, Troop C officers will be conducting a 20-Mile Trooper project on Interstate 70 and Interstate 44 throughout the Troop C area on July 2, 2015 and July 5, 2015. During this enforcement program, troopers will be assigned to 20-mile intervals in an effort to step up traffic enforcement with a goal of reducing traffic crashes over the holiday weekend. This year's July Fourth holiday counting period will begin at 6 p.m. on Thursday, July 2, 2015, and continue through 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, July 5, 2015.

“Many people will be traveling on Missouri’s highways during the holiday. We ask motorists to be patient and courteous while traveling during this busy time of the year,” stated Captain Johnson. “Troopers will be enforcing traffic laws and assisting motorists. The troopers assigned to Troop C are committed to making our highways safe for everyone. Please take the job of driving seriously. Do not drink and drive, obey the speed limit, pay attention, and buckle up.”

Approximately 63 percent of Missouri fatal crash victims who are required to be restrained are NOT at the time of the traffic crash. The Patrol urges motorists to protect themselves and their passengers by making sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint.
