EMPHASIS: MADD Recognizes Two Troopers For Outstanding DWI Enforcement

Captain Juan Villanueva, commanding officer of Troop D, Springfield, announces that two troopers received recognition from the Jasper-Newton Counties Chapter of Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) for their outstanding DWI enforcement in 2009.

On April 21, 2010, at Troop D Headquarters, Colonel Ron Replogle, superintendent of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, and representatives of MADD recognized Trooper John Mason and Trooper Kenny Sanders for their efforts. Trooper Mason, assigned to Zone 11, Jasper County, made 103 arrests for DWI in 2009, and Trooper Sanders, assigned to Zone 7, Newton and McDonald counties, is credited with 57 DWI arrests.

“In 2008, one person was killed or injured in drinking-related traffic crashes every 1.8 hours in the state of Missouri,” said Captain Villanueva. “Enforcement efforts to remove impaired drivers from Missouri’s roadways will continue to be a priority for the Patrol.” In Troop D, for 2009, troopers had a total of 1,370 DWI arrests and statewide, troopers made 9,427 arrests.
