EMPHASIS: Winter Travel

Captain Duane L. Robinson, commanding officer of Troop H in St. Joseph, reminds motorist to adjust their driving habits to the winter season.
Troop H has experienced 10 fatalities during the month of December. This extreme number accounts for about one fourth of the year-to-date total for Northwest Missouri. Some, but not all, have been weather related. Make sure everyone in the vehicle is wearing a seat belt and only travel in adverse weather when it is absolutely necessary. If you find yourself out in winter weather, slow down and leave extra room between your vehicle and the one in front of you. Also, when the temperature is near freezing, the roadway may look wet, when in fact, ice is forming and that transition is very dangerous.
“Let's keep everyone safe this Christmas, by planning your trips around the winter weather. If that is not possible, remember to adjust your driving habits,” stated Captain Robinson.
