EMPHASIS: Results Of DWI Checkpoint In Clay County

Captain Scott Shipers, commanding officer of Troop A, announces the results of a sobriety checkpoint conducted on Friday evening, May 13, 2016. The checkpoint was a joint effort with the Kansas City Police Department and Missouri State Highway Patrol. The checkpoint was held from 11 p.m. on Friday, May 13, to 4 a.m. on Saturday, May 14, and was located at U.S. Highway 169 at N.W. Harlem Road. The location was determined by past arrests, incidents, and traffic crashes in the county.

A total of 863 vehicles were checked during this four-hour operation, and members of the Missouri State Highway Patrol and Kansas City Police Department made the following arrests:

16 -- DWI arrests
2 -- Endangering the welfare of a child arrests
2 -- Misdemeanor drug arrests
1 -- Non-moving violation

"The focus of law enforcement is to enforce all laws and apprehend violators,” said Captain Shipers. “The goal of DWI enforcement projects is to deter impaired driving and to make citizens aware that drinking and driving will not be tolerated."

The only 100 percent survivable traffic crash is the one that never happens. Make sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint. Every day as we travel on Missouri’s roadways, we trust that every driver on the road is going to obey the speed limit, pay attention, and drive sober. “Don’t Violate The Trust.”
