EMPHASIS: Two Fatalities In Troop D's 18-County Area During Memorial Day Holiday .

Captain Juan Villanueva, commanding officer, Troop D, Springfield, announces two fatalities occurred in Troop D during the Memorial Day holiday weekend. One fatality crash was investigated by the Patrol and the other by Ozark Police Department. The counting period began at 6 p.m. Friday, May 28, 2010, and lasted through 11:59 p.m. Monday, May 31, 2010. Troop D is comprised of 18 counties in Southwest Missouri. During the holiday 18 people were arrested in Troop D for driving while intoxicated and troopers investigated 42 traffic crashes resulting in 22 injuries.

The 10-Mile Trooper project, Click-It-Or-Ticket, enforcement of traffic laws, and increased presence by troopers on our highways are credited to saving lives in Troop D over the Memorial Day weekend.

Captain Villanueva stated, “It’s unfortunate that nine people perished on Missouri highways over the Memorial Day weekend. People need to understand that drinking while driving, speeding, not paying attention to the job of driving, and not wearing seat belts is not only dangerous, but deadly.”
