EMPHASIS: August Enforcement Efforts Scheduled For Troop D

Captain Juan Villanueva, commanding officer of Troop D, Springfield, announces several enforcement operations that will be conducted sometime during the month of August 2015.

Troop D officers will conduct a sobriety checkpoint in Jasper County in cooperation with the Joplin Police Department and the Jasper County Sheriff's Department, and a DWI saturation in McDonald County. These efforts will concentrate on highways which have been found to have a high number of alcohol-related crashes and enforcement contacts. Impaired driving contributes to more than 27 percent of all Missouri fatal traffic crashes. In 2014, 205 people were killed and 3,372 injured in crashes involving an impaired driver. This is why the Missouri State Highway Patrol is joining other Missouri law enforcement agencies to crack down on drunk driving throughout the month of August.

Additionally, the Patrol will be conducting a hazardous moving saturation in Christian, Newton, Jasper, and Greene counties. The primary goal of this project is to positively impact traffic safety by reducing crashes. The objectives are to heighten the awareness of the risks associated with impaired driving and increase compliance of the speed limit and seat belt laws.

Approximately 63 percent of Missouri fatal crash victims who are required to be restrained are NOT at the time of the traffic crash. The Patrol urges motorists to protect themselves and their passengers by making sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint.
