EMPHASIS: Traffic Stop On I-70 Results In Drug Arrests

On June 26, 2007, at approximately 8:03 p.m., a member of the Missouri State Highway Patrol stopped a Ford Escort on eastbound Interstate 70 at the 45-mile marker in Lafayette County for failing to use a turn signal.
The member observed two marijuana cigarettes in plain view in the ashtray of the vehicle when he made contact with the driver and passenger. A search of the vehicle revealed a one-pound bundle of marijuana underneath the vehicle’s rear seat and a misdemeanor quantity of marijuana about the vehicle’s interior.
The driver, James H. Boyer Jr., 37, of Stover, MO, and the passenger, Scott L. Ehnes Jr., 24, of Gravois Mills, MO, were arrested for possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, and misdemeanor possession of marijuana. Boyer and Ehnes were transported to the Lafayette County Jail.
The charges for which James H. Boyer Jr. and Scott L. Ehnes Jr. were arrested are mere accusations and are not evidence of guilt. Evidence in support of the charges must be presented before a court of competent jurisdiction whose duty it is to determine guilt or innocence.
