EMPHASIS: Eighth Annual Trooper Michael L. Newton Toy Drive Delivery
The Eighth Annual Trooper Michael L. Newton Toy Drive was held in Troop A from November 12 through December 17, 2010. The toy drive was a cooperative effort between the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the Kansas Highway Patrol, Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, and the citizens we serve. The toy drive was designed to help children whose medical condition required them to spend the Christmas holiday season at the Kansas University Children’s Center and the Ronald McDonald House in Kansas City.
On December 20, representatives of the Missouri State Highway Patrol and the Kansas Highway Patrol personally delivered approximately $4,000 worth of toys to the kids. Also, Sergeant Collin Stosberg accepted $2,000 donation from the Mid-America Chapter of I.S.R.I. (Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries Inc.) in memory of Trooper Newton, which was given to the Ronald McDonald House to provide assistance for families in need. The Kansas State Troopers Association purchased and donated 300 ($1,200 value) Kansas State Highway Patrol bears, which were given to every hospitalized child and their siblings.
Many lives were touched by the generous donations from the citizens we serve and the visits to the Kansas University Children’s Center and the Ronald McDonald House by representatives of the Missouri State Highway Patrol and the Kansas Highway Patrol. The toy drive is an excellent way for Missouri and Kansas to partner for a great cause while remembering the life of Trooper Michael L. Newton.
