EMPHASIS: Troop I Announces Promotion



Captain Lee Ann H. Kenley, commanding officer of Troop I, announces that effective January 1, 2011, Corporal Steven J. Childers was promoted to the rank of sergeant and designated as the zone commander of Zone 2, which patrols Phelps and eastern Maries counties.
Sgt. Childers is a native of White Hall, Arkansas, and a 1983 graduate of White Hall High School. He served for nine years in the U.S. Army as a military policeman, and then as a special deputy with the U.S. Marshal in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Childers was appointed to the Highway Patrol on January 1, 1995, and upon graduating from the Academy was assigned to Troop I, Zone 3, Crawford County. On January 1, 2000, he was promoted to the rank of corporal and designated as the assistant zone commander of Zone 2.
Sergeant Childers is married to Sonja S. (Brewster) Childers.
