EMPHASIS: Results Of DWI Checkpoint In St. Francois County

Captain Ronald S. Johnson, commanding officer of Troop C, announces the results of a sobriety checkpoint conducted from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturday evening, September 12, 2015. The checkpoint was located on Missouri Route OO south of Missouri Highway 32 in St. Francois County. The location was determined by past arrests, incidents, and traffic crashes in the county.

A total of 583 vehicles were stopped during this five-hour operation. Members of the Missouri State Highway Patrol made the following enforcement contacts:

DWI -- 1 arrest
No seat belt -- 3 summonses
Child restraint -- 1 summons
Non-moving violations -- 9 summonses
No driver’s license -- 4 summonses
Driving while suspended/revoked -- 6 summonses
No insurance -- 1 summons
Misdemeanor warrant arrest -- 1 arrest
Warnings -- 45

Captain Johnson stated, "The focus of law enforcement is to enforce all laws and apprehend violators. The goal of DWI enforcement projects is to deter impaired driving and to make citizens aware that drinking and driving will not be tolerated."

To report a suspected impaired driver dial 9-1-1 or *55 on a cell phone.

Approximately 63 percent of Missouri fatal crash victims who are required to be restrained are NOT at the time of the traffic crash. The Patrol urges motorists to protect themselves and their passengers by making sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint.
