EMPHASIS: Troop D Announces Results Of Sobriety Checkpoint And Enforcement Saturation


Captain Juan Villanueva, commanding officer of Troop D, announces the results of a sobriety checkpoint conducted in Lawrence County and a water enforcement saturation in Dallas and Laclede Counties on the Niangua River on July 25-26, 2014. The enforcement locations were selected based on their high number of drinking and impairment-related crashes, in addition to reported behavioral problems, illegal drug usage, and underage alcohol consumption.

Troopers, along with officers from the Lawrence County Sheriff's Department, stopped 509 vehicles at the sobriety checkpoint. The following is a list of enforcement contacts made during the operation:

DWI Arrest -- 1
Seat Belt Violations -- 6
Driver’s License Violations -- 14
Uninsured Motorists Violations -- 8
Minor In Possession Violations -- 3
Misdemeanor Drug Arrests -- 2
Misdemeanor Warrant Arrest -- 1
Felony Warrant Arrest -- 1
Warnings -- 27

The following is a list of enforcement contacts made by the Missouri State Highway Patrol and the Department of Conservation during the saturation on the Niangua River:

Total Boating Citations -- 49
Littering/Unsecure Trash Violations -- 11
Minor In Possession Violations -- 15
Misdemeanor Drug Arrests -- 12
Other Boating Violations -- 11

In support of "The Drive To ZERO Highway Deaths," the Patrol encourages motorists to protect themselves and their passengers by making sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint.
