EMPHASIS: Troop I Announces Results Of Sobriety Checkpoint

A total of 45 arrests were made and 18 warnings issued as a result of a sobriety checkpoint held on U.S. Highway 63, approximately one-half mile north of the Rolla city limits on May 6, 2013. During the course of the four-hour checkpoint, which began at 10 p.m., troopers stopped a total of 208 vehicles. The enforcement totals for the project were as follows:
DWI : 1
Misdemeanor Drug Violations: 3
Seat Belt Violations: 23
Child Restraint Violation: 1
Driver’s License Violations: 4
Uninsured Motorist: 8
Non-Moving Traffic Violations: 3
Misdemeanor Arrest: 1
Felony Arrest: 1

Captain Lee Ann H. Kenley, commanding officer of Troop I, stated, “I would first like to thank everyone who was stopped at the checkpoint for their patience. Secondly, the results of this checkpoint indicate an unusually large numbers of individuals were not wearing their seat belts. To help emphasize the importance of being buckled-up, I would like to inform everyone that an unrestrained driver involved in a 2012 Missouri traffic crash had a 1 in 25 chance of being killed in that crash.”
The Patrol encourages motorists and watercraft operators to protect themselves by making sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint and everyone in the vessel is wearing an approved life jacket. Click It 4Life and Wear It!!!
