EMPHASIS: Results Of BWI Checkpoint Conducted On Smithville Lake

Captain Robert L. Powell, commanding officer of Troop A, announces the results of a sobriety checkpoint conducted on Saturday, July 27, 2013 from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Smithville Lake.

A total of 127 vessels, and 385 boaters were contacted by Missouri State Highway Patrol Marine Operations Troopers during this operation. The troopers issued three citations, 50 warnings and conducted sobriety tests on 15 individuals.

Captain Powell stated, “Missouri’s lakes, rivers and streams provide numerous recreational opportunities for families to spend quality time together. It is the goal of the Missouri State Highway Patrol to do all we can to insure that families can spend time on, and around the water in a safe environment. Operating a vessel while intoxicated will not be tolerated.”

The Patrol encourages motorists and watercraft operators to protect themselves by making sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint and everyone in the vessel is wearing an approved life jacket. Click It 4 Life and Wear It!!!
