EMPHASIS: OPERATION P.R.O.T.E.C.T. To Be Held In St. Louis And St. Charles Counties At Boone Bridge

Captain Ronald S. Johnson, commanding officer of Troop C, Weldon Spring, informs the public that an OPERATION P.R.O.T.E.C.T. is scheduled in St. Louis and St. Charles counties. OPERATION P.R.O.T.E.C.T. will be an eight-hour operation utilizing seven state troopers. The enforcement effort will focus on one work/construction zone on Interstate 40/64 near the Boone Bridge. Operation P.R.O.T.E.C.T. will begin at 8 a.m. and continue to 4 p.m. on April 10, 2014.

OPERATION P.R.O.T.E.C.T. identifies and prioritizes construction/work zones with critical issues or problems affecting highway safety through complaints from the general public, highway/construction workers, law enforcement, and emergency responders, and takes into account recent crash statistics. In addition, a Zero Tolerance enforcement policy has been established for the operation as well as routine construction zone enforcement focusing on traffic violations, such as speed, following too close, other hazardous moving, and commercial motor vehicle violations. This zero tolerance policy directs troopers to take appropriate action on all observed traffic violations in construction/work zones by issuing uniform citations or warnings.

In support of "The Drive To ZERO Highway Deaths," the Patrol encourages motorists and watercraft operators to protect themselves by making sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint and everyone in the vessel is wearing an approved life jacket.
