EMPHASIS: Results Of DWI Checkpoint In Ray County

Captain Scott Shipers, commanding officer of Troop A, announces the results of a sobriety checkpoint conducted on Saturday evening, September 24, 2016. The checkpoint was conducted by members of the Missouri State Highway Patrol from 11 p.m. on Saturday, September 24, to 3 a.m. on Sunday, September 25, and was located on Missouri Highway 10 and East Golf Hill Drive. The location was determined by past arrests, incidents, and traffic crashes in the county.

A total of 104 vehicles were checked during this four-hour operation, and members of the Missouri State Highway Patrol made the following arrests:

DWI -- 2
Driving While Suspended/Revoked -- 2
Other Non-Hazardous Violation -- 1
Misdemeanor Drug Arrests – 4

Felony Drug Arrest -- 1
Municipal Warrant Arrest -- 1

"The sobering fact is that impaired driving contributes to approximately 25 percent of all Missouri fatal crashes,” said Capt. Shipers. “The focus of law enforcement is to enforce all laws and apprehend violators. The goal of DWI enforcement projects is to deter impaired driving and to make citizens aware that drinking and driving will not be tolerated."

The only 100 percent survivable traffic crash is the one that never happens. Make sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint. Every day as we travel on Missouri’s roadways, we trust that every driver on the road is going to obey the speed limit, pay attention, and drive sober.
“Don’t Violate The Trust.”
