EMPHASIS: Traffic Stop On I-70 Results In Drug Arrest
On May 17, 2007, at 11:08 a.m., a member of the Missouri State Highway Patrol stopped an Oldsmobile Delta 88 on eastbound I-70 at the 46-mile marker in Lafayette County for following another vehicle too closely and speeding. The driver denied consent to search the vehicle and a K-9 was requested to respond to the scene. While waiting for the K-9 to respond, the driver fled from the scene on foot, and was apprehended a short distance later. A search of the vehicle was conducted and approximately one ounce of crack cocaine was located in a duffle bag.
The driver, Dwayne L. Carter, 34, of Kansas City, Missouri, was arrested for drug trafficking 2nd degree and resisting arrest by fleeing, and taken to the Lafayette County Jail.
The charges for which Dwayne L. Carter was arrested for are mere accusations and are not evidence of guilt. Evidence in support of the charges must be presented before a court of competent jurisdiction whose duty it is to determine guilt or innocence.
