EMPHASIS: Troop I Announces July 4th Holiday Traffic Crash And Enforcement Totals
Captain Lee Ann H. Kenley, commanding officer of Troop I, announces the July 4th traffic crash and enforcement totals for Troop I. This year’s traffic crash counting period began at 6 p.m., Friday, July 2, 2010, and ended at 11:59 p.m., Monday, July 5, 2010. During the holiday counting period, Troop I officers also participated in Operation (C.A.R.E.), which is a multi-state “Combined Accident Reduction Effort”.
During the July 4th traffic crash counting period troopers assigned to Troop I investigated 24 crashes, resulting in five injuries, and made eight arrests for driving while intoxicated. During Operation C.A.R.E., Troop I officers issued 277 citations for speed and 56 to individuals who were not wearing a seat belt. Four motorists were cited for failing to have their child properly restrained in a child restraint system. In addition to these totals, Troop I officers either responded to a call for service or assisted 171 motorists and issued 674 warnings for traffic offenses
Captain Kenley, stated, “I hope that you and your family were able to enjoy the festivities of the 4th of July without being involved in a traffic crash. Unfortunately, many Missourians spent the holiday either caring for an injured family member or dealing with the loss of property because of a traffic crash. The Missouri State Highway Patrol is committed to making our highways as safe as possible. We realize that this goal can only be achieved if all motorists take the job of driving seriously and always obey the rules of the road.”
